Shosh was born in 1946 in Passau, Germany, came to Israel when she was 2 years old in 1948, grew up in Haifa.

A theatre and cultural researcher, lecturer and journalist. She got her Ph.D. in the Sorbonne – Paris 1981, Theatre Communication, summa cum laude.

Shosh Avigal has published hundreds of articles about theater and culture in the Israeli press. She was the regular theatre critic of various Israeli newspapers as well as in the TV and radio. During the years 1994-1999 she founded and directed the department for Culture at the Tel-Aviv municipality. She directed the Israeli youth theatre, founded and directed the department for theatre teaching at the school for education at the tel-Aviv University. She was a member of many public committees dealing with cultural and educational issues and in managements of various cultural institutes. She initiated, directed and moderated numerous events dealing with cultural and theatre like master classes for play writing, festivals and theatre events. She made some important adaptations for the stage to Israeli books and initiated young play writers to write new plays. She translated, edited and brought into publication her father's diary "Can heaven Be Void" (Yad-Vashem Publication).

In the last years of her life she was mainly teaching and made researches on culture. She was a lecturer at the Tel-Aviv University in the theatre department and the communication school of the managing college in Tel-Aviv. She was also lecturing on various subjects in most of Israel's universities and colleges for the theatre.

She was the founder of the first Israeli internet Forum about theatre.

Shosh Avigal had one son, Idan, retarded who lives in "Levtzeler" institute in Hertzelia. She was active all the years to help this institute grow and develop.

Shosh Avigal had breast cancer for 22 years. She died at the age of 56, on February 7, 2003.

Shosh Avigal's book "Essays on Theatre", edited by Shimon Levi and Gad Kenar was published in February 2005. The book was published by "Assaf publications", the publishing house of the Art Faculty in the Tel-Aviv University.

The book contains a selection of Shosh's articles about Israeli Play writers like Hanoch Levin, Joshua Sobbol and Hillel Mittelpunkt, on Israeli Theatre and world drama (Ibsen, Beckett). In the book you can find also articles dedicated to Shosh written by Michael Handelsaltz, Tzvi Goren, Miriam Keini and Gad Kenar.

The book was published in a limited edition.
